As per my last question https://ask.itac.energy/t/how-do-you-report-ghg-savings-from-boiler-upgrades/68 - our company is preparing its first ESG report. If we do an ITAC assessment, will the results help us report under GHG Protocol scopes?
Yes. ITAC recommendations primarily reduce Scope 1 emissions (on-site combustion) and Scope 2 emissions (purchased electricity). Each recommendation comes with quantified energy savings that are directly converted into CO₂ reductions using DOE factors. These numbers can feed into your GHG inventory under GHG Protocol standards
That’s great. But what about Scope 3, like supply chain emissions?
The ITAC program doesn’t directly measure supply chain emissions, but improving your plant’s efficiency lowers the emissions intensity of your products. That, in turn, helps reduce your upstream Scope 3 footprint. For detailed Scope 3 analysis, companies often combine ITAC data with lifecycle assessment tools.
