Description of the role:

Provide electrical support for electrical systems and equipment. Support includes troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and inspecting electrical systems and equipment. Systems include 115kV substation - 24 volts, and low voltage class indoor/outdoor electrical equipment, generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit and raceway systems, fire alarm, power metering, access control, lighting control, and CCTV.

This team provides 24 hour/7 days a week on-call services. This role is anticipated to be 40 hours a week with periodic and pre-planned on-call rotation.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and build electrical installations without engineering support.

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and install electrical projects throughout the lab.

  • Provide quality assurance for construction projects.

  • Perform electrical inspections for new construction and electrical modifications done by subcontractors and lab personnel.

  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment, and using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.

  • Follow and enforce NREL’s EHS policies and procedures to maintain and ensure a safe working environment.

Minimum qualifications:

Relevant Associate’s Degree or certification program of comparable scope in construction, mechanical or electrical technology and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Full knowledge of general maintenance. Basic knowledge of facility systems and mechanical, electrical and pneumatic equipment. Basic troubleshooting skills. Ability to read blueprints. Basic project administration skills. Very good team and interpersonal skills.
