Description of the role:
The Energy Engineer provides technical expertise and field-based support for energy performance improvement across plant utilities and industrial systems. This role is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and implementing Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), supporting an energy management system that is certified to the ISO 50001 standard, and optimizing systems such as process heating, compressed air, dust collection, pumps, and fans, among others. Working collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, the Energy Engineer leverages data from submetering and automation systems to deliver measurable energy and cost savings. The position requires hands-on problem-solving, strong project execution skills, and a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Position purpose/mission:
To drive measurable reductions in energy consumption and operational costs by identifying technical opportunities, executing high-impact energy projects, and optimizing industrial systems across iron and steel manufacturing facilities. The Energy Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the plant’s energy strategy through detailed system evaluations, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and alignment with energy management objectives. This role ensures that energy efficiency is embedded in day-to-day operations, capital projects, and long-term sustainability goals.
Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related degree.

Three years’ experience working on energy conservation projects and Energy Management Systems certified to the ISO 50001 standard

Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical industrial systems, such as: Thermal Processes, Compressed Air, Dust Collection, Air Make-up units, Pumps and Fans.

Ability to understand/read utility bills, engineering drawings and process diagrams.
