Description of the role:
The successful candidate, in collaboration with principal investigators and project management at ORNL, will participate in the design, fabrication, assembly, and operation of experimental test stands. This individual will oversee maintaining the power and/or instrumentation and controls systems of new or existing test hardware as well as leading the architecture, design, fabrication/build, and commissioning of new systems. In addition to these responsibilities, the candidate will be a contributor to R&D projects that involve electro-mechanical systems and integrated data acquisition systems.
In this position the candidate will be expected to effectively interact with various ORNL staff as well as internal and external sponsors. The candidate is expected to work in a team environment with co-workers and management as well as independently; to fully document work performed in the forms of technical reports, papers, and presentations; and to participate in the development of research proposals. Excellent communication skills including verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required. The successful candidate will interface with principal investigators, management, engineers, fabricators, modelers, and test campaign personnel.
Minimum qualifications:

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field, and a minimum of 5 years related experience; a M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field, and a minimum of 4 years of related experience

Experience leading teams in the design of the EIC system of a plant or process

Demonstrated expertise in facility and or pilot plant design of electrical or I&C systems with hands on experience to include:
- PLC Systems and hard wired analog control systems
- Development of electrical engineering design packages
- Generation of the automation scope and requirements for projects
- The design of control panels, motor panels and HMI panels
- The design of control and information networks
- The development of panel/system IO list(s)
- Design and manufacturing of multilayer circuit board designs for unique applications
