15-year old boiler

Our facility has a huge boiler that runs continuously and has been running for a long time. Additionally, our boiler is about 15 years old. I wanted to know if there is some opportunity for energy efficiency for our boilers and an example.

Before we dive into various energy efficiency of boiler can you describe what type of boiler you have and what does it produce?

It’s natural gas fired hot water boiler.

Thank you so much. Yes, there are several proven opportunities to improve natural gas fired hot water boiler efficiency, including adding insulation, adjusting the air-to-fuel ratio, and preheating combustion air. The impact of these measures depends on your boiler’s performance and operating conditions, which can be evaluated during an assessment. ITACs can help by conducting a no-cost assessment at your facility. As an example, here’s a case study where ITAC identified significant boiler efficiency opportunities for a distillery for similar type of boiler: https://ask.itac.energy/t/smooth-ambler-spirits-energy-assessment-identifies-major-opportunities-for-distilled-spirits-manufacturer/203.
