I’m managing building systems for a university medical campus. Our rooftop HVAC units are one of the biggest contributors to both electric load and maintenance issues. We’ve looked at economizers and demand ventilation, but I’m curious to know what the impacts could be.
Cynthia, your situation sounds like a great case for smart controls. Upgrading controls to include zone-based VAV strategies or predictive maintenance can reduce runtime and maintenance. A initial analysis using runtime data would help identify the impact of various upgrades. Please let us know if you would like know more about the analysis. University campuses do not qualify for the free assessments of the ITAC program but we can help you connect with experts in the field
Appreciate the insight. Even though I know we’re outside the ITAC program scope, we’re still interested in working with someone who does this kind of facility-level HVAC analysis. Do you have contacts or suggested partners in the NC region who could help us with a deeper analysis?
Cynthia you can refer to DOE’s Better Buildings program https://betterbuildingssolutioncenter.energy.gov/partnerships which had various resources that can help with HVAC analysis.
